Your child's learning journey
The start of your childs learning journey
We understand that choosing your child’s nursery is a very important decision, and it can bean emotional time, which is why we always encourage and promote visits to our setting so you can start to build on that relationship and get a feel for the environment. As a setting we have 2 intakes per year, in January and September and we work on a waiting list basis. We recommend that you put your child down on our waiting list as early as possible. You will be asked to fill out a registration form which will then be added to the relevant waiting list (dependent on your child’s DOB). You will receive an email to confirm if we are able to offer you and a place at our Nursery, we aim to send these up to 2 months before the term that your child is due to start. Once you have accepted the place, you will be asked to pay a non-refundable deposit of £35.00, this will include all your administration including a starter pack.
What happens next
1) Setting visit- This will give you the chance to get to know some of our staff and also the opportunity for us to pass on any information about the nursery and for you to ask any questions that you may have.
2) Home visit – This is an informal visit to your home by 2 Nursery staff. It is part of the transition process following acceptance of your child’s place at Nursery. It is an opportunity to begin to build the relationship between home and Nursery that will support a smooth start and successful Nursery experience for your child. You will be given your starter pack including your child’s key worker and start date.
Inline with the government guidelines we will ensure communication prior to our arrival, we must ensure that your household understands the social distancing guidelines and hygiene measures that should be followed. Where possible we will conduct the home visit/Doorstep visit in your garden or safe outside area.
3) Welcome Session – All our new children and families are invited in for a 1 hour play session which will give you the opportunity to meet the staff and hand in your paperwork.
Settling in
The first few weeks when your child is settling in at Nursery are really important to their time with us at nursery later down the line, extra care needs to be taken before and during this period which will minimize difficulties later on, it will also encourage them to interact with their peers and form trusting relationships with not only their Key Worker but the other practitioners in the setting.
All our new children have staggered start dates and the settling-in period is usually carried out over the first 5 sessions (detailed below),
1st session: 09:20 – 10:30
2nd Session: 09:20 – 11:00
3rd Session: 09:20 – 11:30
4th Session: 09:20 – 12:00
5th Session: Full session 09:20 – 12:20
Please bear in mind that some children can take longer to settle, and these times may vary depending on the individual child.
Examples:·
* Younger children can take longer to settle in·
* Children who have not previously spent time away from parents/carers. ·
* Children who have had a period of absence may also need their parent to be on hand to re-settle them.
If there are any problems or concerns during a child’s settling in sessions at Nursery, the staff will always ring the parent/carer to let them know and/or ask that they collect their child slightly earlier (if required).
Parents/carers are also free to ring/text the Nursery at any time to see how their child is progressing. You will also be given an update at the end of each session of how your child has been throughout the session. This helps us provide the continuity of care and working in partnership with parents which is extremely important to us as a team.
Parents/carers will still be required to pay the full session price during the settling in period.
